The theoretical framework has to do with these three thematic axis: a the analysis of content, its definition and purpose; b content analysis technique development and c the relationship between content analysis and qualitative research in student social community context. In conclusion, content analysis is an analysis design, strategy or technique which allows the information to be sub-divided into units, categories and sub-categories so as to quantify data from any given document: interviews, videos, audio, observations, written documents, among others.

Berelson, especialista de la comunicacin colectiva, concede una especial importancia a unode los elementos del proceso de la comunicacin: al contenido, o sea, al qu de la comunicacin. No excluye los otros componentes, pero a lo largo de su exposicin en torno a ello, resalta su inters por el estudio del contenido del mensaje. Este inters lleva al autor a desarrollar una tcnica de investigacin que se denomina anlisis de contenido y que, junto con muchos otros investigadores, ha tratado de definir y sistematizar, pero que an se encuentra en proceso de desarrollo. Berelson revisa las definiciones, objetivos y caractersticas que los diferentes autores proponen entorno al mtodo de trabajo: ser objetivo, sistemtico y cuantitativo. Finalmente, el autor propone una definicin propia a partir de la cual desarrolla su mtodo de anlisis: El anlisis de contenido es una tcnica de investigacin que sirve para describir objetiva, sistemtica y cuantitativamente el contenido manifiesto de la comunicacin. Por contenido de la comunicacin al que se refiere Berelson, se entiende el conjunto de significados expresados a travs de smbolos verbales, musicales, pictricos, plsticos, mmicos que constituyen la comunicacin misma, lo encontramos en toda manifestacin humana, que tiene una causa y conlleva un efecto.
